After dark in Astana

Astana

A capital that entertains for a living. Hotel-floor bars, closed dining rooms for a table of twelve, and the discretion that comes with a business city.

The streets

Nurzhol Boulevard, the pedestrian spine running out from Bayterek, is where a first evening in Astana starts. The Dostyk Street corridor, anchored by the hotel bars around the Ritz-Carlton, is the dressier, later version.

The scene

Astana is a young capital still building its own night out around architecture that was designed for the daytime — showcase towers and a river embankment that read very differently after dark. The city’s extreme continental climate does most of the scheduling: a short, intense outdoor season, and an otherwise indoor, hotel-anchored one.

Public transport mostly stops by 11pm. A car and driver here is not a luxury so much as the only way to move between the boulevard and a hotel bar — which is exactly what a Privé night already includes.

Licensed venues, licensed operators, licensed cars. Every city, no exceptions.

Nothing on a Privé night is discussed, published or photographed by us. Phones stay down.

If a room is beyond us we say so the same day, rather than working on it quietly for a week.
