Kochi, the backwaters and the tea hills
Nine days, four beds, no early starts. Fort Kochi, a houseboat with a cook who shops that morning, and Munnar’s tea at 1,600 metres.
Straight to Fort Kochi. Nothing planned.
The Chinese nets at dawn, Mattancherry and the spice godowns, and Kathakali in the evening if you want it.
Drive south to Alleppey and board in the early afternoon. The boat moors before dark.
A full day on the water in the narrow channels, not the main lake.
Off the boat and east into the hills, climbing all afternoon through the estates.
A tea estate walk with a planter, Eravikulam for the tahr, and cold evenings for once.
Nothing booked. Most people walk.
Back down for a last night by the sea at Marari, which is a beach and not a resort strip.
Transfer to Kochi airport.
